Review: Own Renewing Firming Silk Concentrate

Back on April 5th, I received my second item from the iFabbo shop. This time around I selected Own Renewing Firming Silk Concentrate

Now! Of course, as I've mentioned before, I zero in on any skin care item that claims it brightens skin...yeah the firming didn't do it, ha! Of course, that's just what attracted to me in selecting this product.

I swear, anything could say brightening on it and I'm like, gotta try it! :D

Right off the bat, I have combination skin. Oily T-zone and starting from the sides of the nose, across my cheeks, and on my chin, it's dry. Dry as a bone. My skin absorbs moisture like there's a drought on my face! I don't really have any lines or wrinkles, I don't know if that's a blessing and then I'll get slammed as I get older, or just good genetics. Either way, I don't truly have worry lines either on my forehead.

I do have unevenness to my skin. I don't have scars, but red spots from old blemishes that have disappeared long ago. My skin is rather dull except for the cheek area which is naturally rosier than it should be. I don't have rosacea though, it this actually occurred after I underwent surgery when I was much, much younger (psst 23 years ago to be exact). I'm also sensitive to parabens and fragrances.

So recap?
  • Sensitive to parabens and fragrances
  • Combination skin
  • Dull and unevenness
  • Red spots left behind from blemishes, no scarring.

I'm often apprehensive towards putting any type of oil consistency on my face because of the one time that I did. It had bad effects. So, upon receiving this on the 5th, I began using this immediately that night. With absolutely no idea on how my skin would react.

Disclaimer: When it comes to skin care, I'm a skeptic. I'm not a pro, but I've tried enough to know if a product is working for me, or not.

Product details from Own's website
  • Retinol-free formula
  • Does not cause irritation, redness or flakiness
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • Fragrance-free
  • Paraben-free
  • Sulfate-free

These are the same details that appear for most of their products. So it's always promising for me to see paraben-free and fragrance-free in my book.

Own Renewing Firming Silk Concentrate

Fragrance: There is an extremely, light, light scent to the product that you can only really smell if you put your nose to the bottle.

Packaging: Comes in OWN standard gray box. The bottle itself is glass (white, very, very frosted) with the OWN insignia on it. The eyedropper is glass as well, with a slight angle to it. I noticed though when you press on the dropper, the product only goes half way up the glass dropper.

Texture/Formula: This is a silky oil-like based formula. It takes a little bit of time for it to sink completely into the skin, but if you follow the directions, only using 3 to 4 drops, it does work itself faster. If you loose count (I've had it happen), it takes a little longer. I haven't noticed any type of oil residue while it's absorbing though.

Ingredients: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. Coco-Caprylate, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA Patented Plant Technology), Tocopherol

Directions: While skin is still moist from cleansing, apply 3-4 drops in the AM and PM to face and neck. Use alone or under a moisturizer.

Final Verdict: While Own uses statics that are based within an 8 week period, I can say that I will continue to use this to see how it progresses. After 2 weeks though, I have noticed that my skin does appear more even and brighter. Not to mention, it feels smoother and softer. I tried to use this alone though, and being my skin likes to think it's a desert, I have to use moisturizer with it.

I can't truly say that I see any firming occurring, but that could be due to the simply fact that I'm lacking in lines and wrinkles. If anything I'll have my Mother give this a good test. That could be another review itself with her.
